Artistic creation, image and graphic design are intimately part of the Olympic Games in the representation of the values of Olympism but also in its logistical and organizational use: from the poster, created for the first time for the V Olympiad Games, Stockholm-1912 – which graphically translates the underlying ideal of the specific edition and emanates from a graphic vision of the time – to the most recent pictograms, which represent the sports modalities of the Olympic programme.

In 1896, in the first edition of the modern Olympic Games, there were nine disciplines in the program. There are currently more than thirty, many of which are still subdivided into disciplines.

The pictograms are part of a broader set of symbols with the function of orientation signs in the public space of circulation, allowing the fulfillment of the informative function of identifying spaces and paths and the representation of sport through a desired graphics at once simple and universally understood.

Philately, an indirect ally of the Games, is given a commemorative function through the issuance of special stamps by the postal services of the host country of the Games, as well as by numerous other countries.

Using postage stamps and Olympic pictograms, the exhibition «The Olympic Modalities - A (picto)graphic look» shows how art and sport have a close relationship and how graphic synthesis has functional potential in the representation of sporting action associated with the Olympic Games, themselves based on the pillars of sport and culture.

The exhibition is free of charge and will be open until October at the Jamor Interpretive Center - Swimming Pool Complex of the National Sports Center of Jamor (CDNJ).
