Olympic Games posters
SPORT MUSEUM - FOZ PALACE
It was for the 1912 Stockholm Games that an official poster was created to promote the event. Since then, for each edition of the Games, a contest for the creation of posters has been announced, one of which being chosen to be the official poster.
The Olympic posters represent the Olympic values and ideal, in addition to reflecting the cultural context of the country in which they are held.
Each poster also fits into the graphic trends of its time, so a collection of Olympic posters constitutes a repository of the evolution of graphics from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.
The exhibition at the National Sports Museum features all posters from 1912 – the year in which Portugal participated for the first time in the Olympic Games – until today, with information on all Portuguese athletes who participated in each of the editions.
